Michael “Fires” van Vuuren attended our High Performance course at Konka in December 2010 on a Primedia Scholarship and has made a big impact in the rugby circles ever since. He was voted as the best forward on the course and in turn, won the Nando’s award which entitled him the opportunity to attend the International Rugby Academy’s High Performance Course in New Zealand.
He has recently returned from IRANZ where he had the wonderful opportunity of playing against a touring South African Team that were over there filming the TV show “Tussen die Lyne”. At the end of the course, Michael was awarded the Coaches Award for his tenacity and die hard attitude towards the game. This is a great achievement considering this award is made by the New Zealand coaches on the course.
He has the opportunity to gain from some of the top coaches in the world on the two courses he attended and this has definitely made a difference in his game. Since attending the South African course at the end of last year, Michael has been included in the highly talented Free State Varsity Cup squad “Shimlas”, the Free State Vodacom Cup Squad as well as the South African u20 squad to tour Argentina this year.
It has been a great start to the 2011 season for Michael and we all hope that things go from strength to strength.
