Additional
Drill Sessions:
Passing Drills, Contact Drills, Defence Drills, Opposed Drills, Kicking Drills
Dave is also available to run any of the above drill sessions based on the requirements of the coach. These would need to be planned by Dave in advance, so prior notice of the sessions required is needed.
Skill Testing and Evaluation @ $50 plus GST per player

Wayne Taylor, Strength and Conditioning Coach
IRANZ Fitness Specialist Wayne Taylor is available to be booked by club, school and representative team coaches. Wayne is the current fitness trainer for the New Zealand U21 team and is a vital member of the IRANZ team working closely with the players to educate them on rugby specific conditioning to maximise each individual’s potential. This includes all training techniques and clear guidelines of the training ethic required. For coaches, Wayne provides them with the tools to understand and plan the physiological requirements for their players. This gives coaches an overall understanding of ‘when and what to do’ when planning and periodising all training volumes, intensity, weekly routines, conditioning and recovery.
Wayne is able to fitness test a team and gives feedback on individual standards specific to each player’s position and compares them to those required at higher levels, i.e. academy, NPC etc. From this information clear guidelines and individual targets can then be set.
Wayne has trained extensively in strength and conditioning, sports rehabilitation, massage and sports medicine. He has completed studies through the Chek Corrective and High Performance Exercise Kinesiologist Institute in the USA. He also specialises in team building and has designed team building and leadership activities for elite rugby teams including the NZ Black Ferns as well as Leadership Captaincy Courses for the NZRU.
Choose from the following:
| Wayne Taylor Sessions | Time | Participants |
| Ice Breakers - Teamwork Introduction | 1.5 hours | All |
| Utilising basic 'Ice Breaker Activities' early in a team build up, helps to break down any barriers and unite the team. This therefore has a significant effect on what you are able to achieve in all others areas of development. | ||
| Warm Ups | Players Involved, Management observe | |
|
Utilising both the theory and practical knowledge passed on by Wayne, coaches will
be able to effectively design warm ups specific to the variety of training sessions
they will conduct. From this session, coaches can also plan, in consultation with
their players, an effective ‘pre game’ routine. 1 Specificity to Trainings and Games 2 Drills design and safe conduct 3 Progression etc |
||
| Cool Down/Recovery | 1 hour | Players Involved, Management assist |
|
Cool Down and Recovery are areas that are generally poorly completed in team
environments; however they have a significant effect on performance. With the
theoretical knowledge, and practical ‘know how’, a team can take their
professionalism to a whole new level: 1 Specific stretching 2 Contrast baths/Hydrotherapy 3 Active recovery methods 4 Nutrition 5 Establishing a recovery routine 6 Additional recovery considerations |
||
| Rugby Specific Conditioning Presentation | 1.5 hours | All Attend |
| In order to get 'buy in' from the players, they need to understand the ‘reasons why’. With the right information, players can then understand and become more accountable for their own performance. This presentation helps coaches and players to have a combined understanding of what is required. | ||
| Planning with coaches 'systems' | Management Team | |
|
This is an opportunity for the coaches and their management team to confirm or learn
areas that will enable them to plan effectively. It is driven by the knowledge level
of the coaches and any areas they wish to cover. 1 Planning weekly routines, volumes & intensity 2 Training and periodisation 3 Types of conditioning and conduct - games, functional strength, improvising, drills, etc |
||
Add Ons | ||
| Exercise Technique Coaching | 1-2 hours | All Players |
| This practical presentation covers the techniques for players to safely condition themselves. Emphasis is on teaching the correct movement patterns rather than heavy weights and 'body building'. Once these foundations have been established then players can progressively increase their load, applicable to their personal ability. All techniques are orientated around functional movements, aimed at improving on-field performance, and will be the basis of most of their training in future years. | ||
| Fitness Assessments (Group) | ||
| Acceleration, Speed and Anaerobic Fitness Tests | 2 hours | All Players |
| Aerobic and Strength Tests | 2 hours | Management Assist |
| Team Building - Leadership & Teamwork Development | All Players, Management observe | |
